Finding something unique in a commuter laptop backpack is difficult these days. The North Face have proved innovators in many types of different technologies for this product category and the Access O2 is a perfect example.
The closing mechanism is a very clever springloaded frame with a latch. Simply push the button and it pops open quickly to give access (ahem) to your tablet or smaller digital devices and main packing section. Another nifty feature here is an ejector tab – simply tug on it and your device rises out of it’s sleeve for quick retrieval. Superb.
There is plenty of packing space internally for more things and the base is structured so it conveniently stands up on its own (and looks amazing doing so!)
There is a small front slip pocket and similar small zip pocket on the backpack edging for quick access to small personals – phones, train tickets, keys etc. The rear one is particularly useful whilst the bag is on your back.
The rear zipper pocket houses your laptop. Also has an ejector grip for quick retrieval. The metal frame from the pop-top provides protection for the top corners of your laptop whilst the moulded ‘soft-solid’ lumbar pads the rest of your laptop providing computer protection that is unmatched in this class.
Carrying is done with an adjustable shoulder strap and the moulded exo-skeleton is superbly comfortable. Chest straps improve comfort further and they can also be adjusted vertically to optimise fit around your chest. To finish off, a breathable lumbar support maintains comfort throughout the day.
We’re super-impressed. Its pricey (but great value at Luggage Warehouse) and there isn’t an alternative close to it with these specific features.
